About the Eagle Foundation
Imagine a time when innovative teachers, fresh with the excitement of stirring and enticing young minds, have the resources to bring wonderful new learning experiences to their classrooms.
Imagine a time when those teachers are not encumbered by budget restrictions which thwart
inventive ideas and quash innovations in teaching.
Imagine a learning environment which comes alive with exciting challenges and fascinating experiences . . . all focused on enriching the academic exposure of young students.
The time for such forward, proactive education is NOW ... through the Eagle Foundation of the Blue Mountain School District. More than 30 business and
community leaders of southern Schuylkill County have come together with the sole purpose to further encourage excellence and enrichment in academics for students of the Blue Mountain School District.
Not directly associated with the school district other than having a keen interest in the future of young people, bank executives, housewives, educators, salespeople, insurance agents, realtors, owners of small businesses and large industrial leaders have come together to direct the Eagle Foundation. The nonprofit, charitable organization is aimed directly at enhancing educational opportunities for all students, kindergarten through 12th grade, who attend Blue Mt. The Eagle Foundation is committed to several primary goals:
-
to enhance educational opportunities for all students in all grade levels;
-
to increase public involvement in the schools;
-
to create initiatives which support imaginative teachers and other school personnel; and
-
to encourage alumni to support the Eagle Foundation through annual pledges, planned contributions and memorial gifts.
In the recent past, the Blue Mountain School District has forged numerous "partnerships" with area businesses, resulting in sponsorship of the district calendar, funding for drug awareness and education programs, and funding to retain an athletic trainer for the high school athletic teams, just to name a few.
The Eagle Foundation will now become the vehicle for businesses and individuals to:
-
fund innovative projects that would normally not be considered;
-
provide a way for alumni to support their school;
-
give donors an opportunity to make tax-deductible gifts to the school; and,
-
allow the district's students to gain donations from other foundations or nonprofit groups.
One of the most exciting programs administered by the Eagle Foundation is a grants program for teachers. Twice yearly, educators will be allowed to propose innovative, curriculum-related projects. The scope of the project, along with its expected benefits and costs, must be submitted in detail for review by the Eagle Foundation. Those projects deemed most beneficial to the full spectrum of students will be awarded financial grants. The number and amounts of the grants will be dependent upon the fundraising abilities of the foundation and of the project merits.
Community support may not only be measured in dollars and cents. New partnerships could be created (i.e. computers, retired from area businesses following upgrades, could be refurbished by technology students and reborn for classroom use at whichever building and grade requires them). The Eagle Foundation could be the vehicle to make this happen and afford tax advantages to the contributor.
Community support could come in the form of lending knowledge and expertise. A local business person might provide a week-long "residency" to work with business or computer classes. A retailer might lead a roundtable discussion on marketing, advertising, overhead and profitability.
A wealth of education is all around us ... and within us. The Eagle Foundation aims to be the focal point to harness
community support in all forms, for the benefit of the district's student body.
